The Pearl 8100 is the latest offering from RIM(the makers of Blackberry handsets) Taking a paradigm shift from a business tool to a smart phone with entertaining features, Blackberry Pearl 8100 endeavors to appeal to a wider consumer segment - from executives to college-goers. Promoted under the banner of T-mobile network, the handset promises superb mobility to users. Let's find out, whether it really has something to surprise us or is yet another handset riding on marketing blitzkrieg.
Design :- The handset looks uber-sexy and the manufacturer deserves kudos for it. Glossy black finish with silver sides and a vibrant display radiates elegance. A track-ball makes for swift navigation but it is a touch too sensitive. Half-inch thick and at 3.2 ounces, the handset is slim and light to slip into normal pockets. The Sure Type keyboard has improved but the smaller keys might be of discomfort to people with longer fingers.
Features:- The handset offers a 1.3 MP camera, a music player and video playback( first for a Blackberry). The camera shoots clearly, the music sounds good although it doesn't have DRM support. The handset has reliable quad-band GSM/GPRS and EDGE network. You have Bluetooth but only for hands-free and serial port profiles.
The handset scores well in its specialized domains like business applications, web, e-mail and organizing features. Though RIM has not taken any big strides with the Pearl, yet it is way ahead of compatible competitors. The call quality is good and the network coverage keeps you connected everywhere.
Verdict:- The handset comes with additional features which is certainly refreshing for the fans of Blackberry. The handset has style, offers good business features and entertainment. A good handset to buy if you want more of utility with some entertainment in course.
